Hola, shalom, privyet…howzit!

Dear Friend,

1400 cities, 1 million people, 1 project: Shabbas! Some of you are keeping it all, others are turning off their phones; one friend told me he won’t be using the lift (he’s in his eighties!). Whatever extra thing you’re doing, you are joining the Jewish people in “keeping it together”.

Amy Vogelman is barely an adult but already she’s having a huge impact on her surroundings. Mazel tov Amy on your Bat Mitzvah! Not only is Amy keeping Shabbas but all her friends and family are collectively truly keeping it together!

Such influence, itself is the product of a good influence and with Amy we don’t have far to look…Mazel tov to her parents Gary & Martine Vogelman, grandparents Philip & Michele Krawitz and great grandmother Zelda Lowenberg, may you have much continued nachas from this true “daughter of Israel”!

The secret is out! Our Sea Point community will congregate at the Pavilion Pools park (separated from the pools with private access) at 1pm Shabbas day for a fun Shabbas time, complete with a full lunch, desserts by Crumbs and Cream, games, a Speakers corner, and much more. If you’ve booked, pls fetch your bracelet from the Shul office as access will only be granted with a bracelet.

Can’t walk the 800 metres? No problem! Book your seat for our Shabbat meat lunch hosted by Cantor Ivor in the Shul Hall.

Condolences to Michelle, David and Daniel Yach on the sudden passing of their husband and father Theodore Yach. Theo was a larger than life person who served his family, community and city. He left us all a rich and ambitious legacy and I hope that each of us will stand a bit straighter when we think of this legend. May Hashem grant his family comfort and strength.

Condolences to Selwyn Widan on the loss of his brother, Ivan Widan and to Anita Shenker on the loss of her sister, Marlene Kleinberger. My Hashem grant you comfort.

As it’s the end of the month, all children celebrating birthdays in October will receive a blessing and chocolate from me in Shul on Friday night. Just let the office know! hillary@maraisroadshul.com

Mazel tov to Selwyn & Reina Fabian on their 50th Wedding Anniversary! May Hashem grant you many happy healthy years together, filled with continued nachas.

Mazel tov to Sharon Levy on her 70th Birthday! Sharon is visiting Australia but I know that her daughter Nicky in Perth reads my weekly emails and will pass on our best wishes to her mom. Happy bday!

So, whatever your language, whichever city you are in, in whatever country, this week let’s say it together: Shabbat shalom!
