Chanukah is around the corner so be sure to get your Menorah ready: On Sunday night we light up the world!
Marais Road Shul and Chabad House once again invite you to a Grand Chanukah celebration at Weizmann Herzlia on Sunday night. Rides, entertainment, food and a floating Menorah! It’s fun for the whole family and entrance is free (just pay for what you eat and ride) so diarise now and join us from 5:30pm Sunday night, December 6.
Throughout Chanukah we will also be hosting a senior’s event and a young adults party. Check the schmooze for details!
Summer is here and so is Shabbat Unplugged! Get ready for our traditional Friday Night service interspersed with “Beach Boys” melodies, a pre-shul party like no other and some great surprises. December 18 @ the Marais Road Shul. Celebrating Summer. Be there!
Mazel tov to Maureen Summerfield, Shirley Levenson and Judy Benjamin who are all celebrating their 80th birthdays! A great decade ahead with much nachas and good health and vigor.
Mazels to Julian and Jenny Jacobs on the birth of a granddaughter. And Mazel tov to great granny Anne Jacobs! Much nachas, even from a distance…
We hear you! After much feedback we are moving the Shabbat Shachrit service to start at 8:30am.
Let us know how we’re doing! Please know that I respond to (almost) all emails and truly welcome your communication. I’d like to thank a non-congregant (MV) who reached out to me this week to inform me of his mother’s illness (as she is a congregant). It allowed me to connect with you, my congregation, and be there in your time of need.
Rabbis aren’t prophets and can’t keep track of each person on their own. I rely on you to invite me in to your experience, or perhaps someone’s you know, thereby affording me the chance to connect during someone’s time of need or celebration.
Are you in line to win a Kindle Reader? Update your details with the Shul and stand a chance win! If you haven’t received the email or aren’t used to a computer, just call Debra at the Shul and she’ll help you. Competition ends December 14 so don’t delay!
I had the pleasure and privilege of attending some end of year milestones in the various educational institutions of our community. The final birthday assembly at Weizmann was emotional for me and I thank Morah Refaeli and Principal Mr. Krupenia for the opportunity to spend a few minutes each week with these precious kids. On Wednesday night I attended a remarkable event hosted by the Cape Town Torah High at the prestigious 15 on Orange. Dr. Leonard Carr (famous for analysing Oscar Pistorius for Carte Blanche) spoke on how to ensure that children love who they are. His point was that Torah (study and practice) is not an ingredient in the mix but a major part of a Jewish child’s development.
Chanukah celebrates our victory over religious oppression. Of light over darkness. Be sure to kindle your Menorah each night starting this Sunday night. Click here for a great DIY video
Shabbat Shalom, happy Chanukah and happy reading!
