the rabbi has a rabbi?

Dear Friend,

Mazel tov to Percy Tucker on his 90th birthday! Percy goes way back with the Shul and we wish him gezunte yohrin.

Who said the marriage institution was in trouble? Mazel tov to Arthur and Bernice Getz on their 64th wedding anniversary; to Dr. Harry and Shooshy Buchinsky on their 56th wedding anniversary and to our baal tefilla Harry and Evelyn Sacks on their 55th wedding anniversary. Kenehora!

Although many associate religion with guilt and solemnity, Judaism is actually a religion of joyfulness and celebration. So even when we mourn the destruction of the first and second Temples in Jerusalem on “Tish’a b’Av”, we seek to channel that sadness into inspiration and action.

This year, Tish’a B’Av coincides with Saturday and Sunday, July 21/22 and we will be hosting my personal Rabbi and mentor, Levy Wineberg of Johannesburg, as our visiting scholar. Known to his thousands of students around the globe, as “Rabbi Google”, Rabbi Wineberg is renowned for his vast scholarship, and yes, we’re related! Check out the attached poster for the program of events and don’t miss the opportunity to be uplifted by this engaging and fascinating personality.

Condolences to Inez Brouze and her children Keith, Rodney, David and Karen on the passing of their husband and father, Jack Brouze. Jack and Inez spent their last few years in Cape Town and they were special ones indeed. We wish the family comfort and strength in this time.

Ladies Tehillim circle this Shabbas with Rebbetzin Sara will take place in the Shul hall at 5pm.

Shabbat Shalom and happy reading!

Rabbi Dovid Wineberg
